I am writing to share my very negative experience with BSC yesterday (Nov. 18, 2024). Our heat just stopped working Friday night (11/15) and I had to leave the next day to go to Canada. My son asked BSC to analyze our issue but only my wife was home on Monday when the technician came. He came in and had a very condescending and dismissive view to my wife. She tried to explain what my son had seen and done so far. His curt response was “is he certified? He could have killed you.” He went to the furnace and in minutes returned saying we “need a new control board for $2000” and intimidated her into signing “an estimate”. I happened to return at 3:00 PM discovering all of this and asked for the paper she signed. There wasn’t any paper or email. The technician arrived back soon and I asked him why he was so sure with such little analysis. Could we hold off on ordering the part until we had a second opinion? In a word “no” so I cancelled it all.
In his write up he stated “the wife was not authorized to make this contract” (not true).
I immediately called another heating company that came over, did a thorough analysis, checking various possible problems. He found that it was a faulty gas valve, not the control board, and fixed it (P&L) for $1200.
UPDATE: 11/20/24 – The vendor decided to lower his estimate of $1200 to $500!!! Easier and quicker than thought. Therefore I SAVED an immediate $1500 by NOT going thru BSC, with a “solution” that would not have resolved the problem anyways.
