Gas Networks Offers Boiler Replacement Rebates For 2013!

Once again, National Grid and NSTAR will offer a substantial rebate on the purchase and installation of replacement boilers. Boston homeowners who have a working boiler that is at least 30 years old qualify for some great rebates when they replace their old boiler with a qualifying new model. Landlords may be eligible for a special rebates on qualified rental properties!

The space shuttle Challenger made its first flight. The New York Islanders won their fourth consecutive Stanley Cup. Pioneer 10 passed Neptune. Raymond Flynn was elected as the mayor of Boston. Sally Ride became the first U.S. woman in space. Poland declared martial law. The Vostok Station in Antarctica recorded the lowest temperature on Earth (-128.6°F). Carl Yastrzemski retired. President Ronald Reagan approved GPS information for civilian use. The Baltimore Orioles won the World Series in Bowie Kuhn’s last year as the commissioner of Major League Baseball. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday was designated as a national holiday and McDonald’s introduced the McNugget. If the boiler in your home marked all of these milestones, it’s time to consider replacing it!

The Gas Networks special rebate program for replacement boilers is available only until August 31, 2013 and applies only to working residential boilers that are at least 30 years of age. Replacement forced hot-water boilers that use natural gas and are at least 90% efficient will qualify for a rebate of $3,500. Replacement steam boilers that use natural gas, propane or fuel oil and are at least 82% efficient will qualify for a rebate of $1,900 and forced hot water boilers that use heating oil and are at least 85% efficient will qualify for a rebate of $1,700.

For landlords, replacement forced hot water boilers that use natural gas and are at least 90% efficient will qualify for a rebate of $4,000 provided that the claimant’s landlord status can be verified, and the installation location is no larger than a four-family unit. Replacement steam boilers that are at least 82% efficient will qualify for the same $1,900 rebate that residential properties do. Forced hot water boilers that use heating oil and are at least 85% efficient will qualify for a rebate of $1,750, provided that they are installed in non-owner occupied residential properties.

To start the rebate process, you must request a Mass Save Home Energy Services Program Site Visit between May 1, 2013 and August 31, 2013, prior to replacing the boiler. Boston Standard Plumbing & Heating can complete this site visit and get you on your way to owning a new, more efficient boiler. All equipment must be installed prior to October 1, 2013 and all rebate requests must be submitted no later than October 1, 2013.

You are also eligible to participate in the 0% Mass Save HEAT Loan financing program. This program allows you to finance the cost of qualifying replacement heating equipment over a seven-year period on a same-as-cash basis. This program is a home run all the way around! Save money on the purchase and installation of new, high-efficiency heating equipment. Save money on operational costs over the life of the equipment, and reduce the cost of the original purchase through this great rebate program.
