If you’re considering some heating improvements to your home in Boston, high-efficiency heating equipment rebates from Gas Networks are available for 2013! There are a few nice changes to the program, so they’re definitely worth taking advantage of this year. Customers of Berkshire Gas, Blackstone Gas, Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, National Grid (MA only), NSTAR Gas and Unitil are eligible to participate.
You may be eligible for a $1,500 rebate on natural gas hot water boilers with an efficiency rating of 95% or better. This represents a slight drop in the required efficiency rating from last year (95%), but that’s good news for consumers because more heating units will qualify for the program’s largest rebate. A $1,000 rebate is also available for natural gas hot water boiler units with an efficiency rating of 90% or better. Finally, condensing boilers with on-demand domestic hot water (DHW) and an efficiency rating of 90% or better are eligible for a $1,200 rebate.
If you’re looking to upgrade or update a natural gas furnace, you can take advantage of some other rebate opportunities. Natural gas furnaces with an electronically commutated motor (ECM) and efficiency ratings of 97% or better are eligible for a $450 rebate, while natural gas ECM furnaces with an efficiency rating of 95% or better are eligible for a $300 rebate. Both new construction and existing construction are eligible for these rebates, as are natural gas replacement equipment, and conversions from propane or oil.
Some natural gas hot water systems also qualify for rebates. On-demand tankless hot water systems with an efficiency rating of 94% or better, and electronic ignition are eligible for a $800 rebate. Both on-demand tankless hot water systems with an efficiency rating of 82% or better and condensing gas water heaters with a thermal efficiency of at least 95% are eligible for a $500 rebate. Indirect water heaters that are connected to a forced hot water boiler system are eligible for a $400 rebate, and traditional natural gas hot water storage tank systems with an efficiency rating of at least 67% are eligible for a rebate of $100.
Heating and hot water equipment aren’t the only programs you should consider. Gas Networks has rebate programs for heating control equipment, as well. You can claim a $100 rebate on qualified Wi-Fi capable thermostats, like the Nest. These remotely programmable thermostats can help you save money while maintaining the comfort of your home. Homeowners can claim rebates for as many as two thermostats per account.
Boiler reset controls designed for non-condensing boilers are eligible for a rebate of $225, and homeowners who install a programmable thermostat can claim a rebate of $25 per unit with a limit of two units per account.
All installations must be completed by a licensed technician before December 31, 2013 to qualify.
